Green Choices

This committee will plan actions and prepare educational materials about making green purchasing decisions, such as organic food, green chemicals and recycled goods

 Suggestions / goals:

  • lBuy paper with high post-consumer waste content (no less than 30%) manufactured with a chlorine-free process.
  • lBuy cleaning products that are bio-based (CO2 neutral), and pose little or no risks to human health.
  • lLink children to their food source through participation in Farm to Table programs and food gardens in all schools
  • lCreate, support, fund, and develop Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Farmers markets,  local food events, Organic Community Gardens.  Business can promote the purchase of locally-produced foods.  Encourage farmers' markets. 
  • lEncourage the public to use alternatives to traditional plastic shopping bags through outreach and communication.

  • lMandate "Light Relief Hours": No commercial or interior lighting between certain hours (i.e. midnight and 6 am).  Trigger parking lot lights with activity sensors.  Reduce display lighting.
